CancerBACUP
CancerBACUP, a United Kingdom charitable organisation, was founded in 1985 by Dr Vicky Clement-Jones who refused to be defeated by her diagnosis of inoperable ovarian cancer. Given only three months to live, she realised that patients were in desperate need of good quality information, practical advice and emotional support but could find none. She decided to establish a national cancer information service called BACUP (British Association of Cancer United Patients - and their families and friends). She actually survived five years, long enough to establish CancerBACUP and be assured of its success. [You can read her personal account of why she decided to set up BACUP here]. Their mission is to give cancer patients and their families up-to-date information, practical advice and the support they need to reduce the fear and uncertainty of cancer. While the resources and support they offer may only be directly beneficial to patients living in Britain, the site contains a wealth of information on cancer for both lay people and health professionals. It has a section on cancer type which is clearly written and easy to understand by everyone.
